Until January 2020, I was Director of Writing Workshops Los Angeles, a private writing school for the brave, enthusiastic, and talented. Now I’m working as Library Communication Coordinator at the California Institute of Technology. I received my Ph.D. in English from the City University of New York Graduate Center, and I've worked as a writing instructor for several universities in New York and Los Angeles, including Caltech, Brooklyn College (CUNY), Loyola Marymount University, and the Polytechnic Institute of New York University.
My writing has appeared in Air/Light Magazine (Pushcart nomination), The Rupture, Unfortunately (Pushcart nomination), Essay Daily, Angel's Flight • Literary West, the March Faxness tournament, DUM DUM Zine, Cease, Cows, Front Porch Journal, and Crony, and my essay "Thoughts on Time After Viewing Christian Marclay's 'The Clock'" was included in the Norton anthology of contemporary nonfiction, Brief Encounters. I have reviewed fiction and nonfiction, primarily focusing on music and Los Angeles history, for the Los Angeles Times, Alta: Journal of Alta California (Top Book Reviews of 2021 and 2023), and Los Angeles Review of Books.
In 2013 and 2014, I served as a judge for the fiction and first fiction awards of the Los Angeles Times Book Prizes. I have received support for my novel in progress An Astonishing Force for Betterment from the Ucross Foundation, the Yefe Nof California Writing Residency, and the Studios at Key West. My photography has appeared in Redivider, Camas Magazine, Gesture Literary Journal, FORTH Magazine, Angels Flight • literary west, Bartleby Snopes, the blogs for Ploughshares and the Los Angeles Review of Books, and Print Oriented Bastards.
Before my work with WWLA, I was one of the founders of WordCraft LA, a writing consultant collective in Los Angeles. As a professional coach and editor, I have worked on novels, fiction and nonfiction manuscripts, dissertations, book proposals, screenplays, web copy, product pitches, and marketing materials. Previous design and editorial clients include Caltech Library, PEN America, literary journals Air/Light and The Rattling Wall, NYC Health & Hospitals Corporation, CMH Records, Shogun Tattoo, Circa Interactive, academics around the world, and authors published by Simon & Schuster, Pantheon, DC Comics, Random House, Hachette Book Group, Counterpoint Press, W.W. Norton, Hogarth, and Flatiron Books.
